GateKeeper Conveyor - PIN Entry¶
GateKeeper uses a 6-digit numeric PIN to protect access to the Settings dialog. This prevents accidental changes to configuration by line operators.
Default PIN¶
The default PIN for all GateKeeper deployments is:
867530
This PIN works unless it has been changed by a site administrator or installation technician. If the default PIN does not work, the PIN has been changed for that site. See What to Do If the PIN Does Not Work below.
What the PIN Protects¶
The PIN is required to access the Settings dialog (the gear icon in the top-right corner of the application). The Settings dialog contains:
- Timing settings (scan timeouts, display durations)
- Validation configuration
- PIN management (changing the PIN)
- Network credentials (Teasdale mode)
What does NOT require a PIN:
- Opening/closing the Diagnostics Panel (wrench button) -- no PIN needed
- Turning validation on/off with the toggle -- no PIN needed (unless "Lock Validation Controls" is enabled at the site, in which case the toggle requires PIN entry on first use per session)
- Viewing scan history and results -- no PIN needed
- Resetting counts -- no PIN needed
- Using Teasdale pallet controls (Print Labels, Complete Partial Pallet, Pause/Resume) -- no PIN needed
How to Enter the PIN¶
- Tap the gear icon (settings button) in the top-right corner of the application
- A PIN entry screen appears with a dark background and a numeric keypad
- The screen shows:
- Title: "Enter PIN"
- A PIN display area showing dots for entered digits and underscores for remaining digits
- Instruction text: "Enter 6 digits"
- A 3x4 numeric keypad (buttons 1-9, Clear, 0, Backspace)
- A Cancel button at the bottom
- Tap the digits of the PIN one at a time
- Each digit appears as a filled dot in the display area
- After the 6th digit is entered, the PIN auto-submits -- you do not need to tap a submit button
If the PIN is correct:¶
- The Settings dialog opens immediately
- You can make changes and tap OK to save, or Cancel to discard
If the PIN is incorrect:¶
- A dialog box appears: "Incorrect PIN. Please try again." with the title "Access Denied"
- Tap OK to dismiss the message
- The PIN display clears and you can try again
- There is no lockout -- you can retry as many times as needed
Keypad buttons:¶
| Button | Action |
|---|---|
| 0-9 | Enters a digit |
| Clear (red button) | Clears all entered digits |
| Backspace (arrow symbol) | Removes the last entered digit |
| Cancel | Closes the PIN dialog without accessing settings |
Changing the PIN¶
The PIN can be changed from within the Settings dialog:
- Enter the current PIN to open Settings
- In the Settings dialog, find the PIN management section
- Follow the prompts to set a new PIN
- The new PIN must be exactly 6 digits
- You will be asked to confirm the new PIN by entering it twice
- The new PIN is saved to the application configuration file
Important: If the PIN is changed, the new PIN must be communicated to all support staff who need access. The system stores only a hash of the PIN, so it cannot be recovered -- only reset.
What to Do If the PIN Does Not Work¶
If the default PIN (867530) is rejected:
-
The PIN has been changed. Contact the site administrator or the person who deployed GateKeeper at that site to get the current PIN.
-
If no one knows the current PIN, the PIN hash can be reset by editing the application configuration file. This requires access to the computer's file system:
- Open the file:
C:\gatekeeper\conveyor\appsettings.json - Find the
"SettingsPinHash"setting - Replace its value with the default hash:
"dceee89666036f36452cb2c290bf0635e900323b24c0ee55708bac70df9f0012" - Save the file
- Restart the GateKeeper application
-
The default PIN (867530) will work again
-
If you cannot access the file system, escalate to a Tier 2 support technician or the development team.
Locked Validation Controls¶
Some sites are configured with "Lock Validation Controls" enabled. At these sites, the validation toggle requires PIN entry the first time you try to change it during each application session:
- Tap the validation toggle
- A PIN entry dialog appears
- Enter the PIN
- If correct, the toggle changes state and remains unlocked for the rest of the session (until the application is restarted)
- If incorrect, the toggle does not change
This is an additional safety measure to prevent line operators from accidentally stopping validation.
